Curved-billed Thrasher Roma, TX

D1X, 600, 1/200 @ f4, ISO 400, Fill flash.

Not only was it dark and overcast, but it was raining. Only a few rain streaks were on the image so I cloned them out.

Wow, lovely image, Alan! Love that BG and pose.

By the way, thanks for the tips about my shot with the perch the other day.

Thanks for sharing.

Another lovely image. Dare a say that a slight head turn would have made it better?

This is lovely -- great save. I like the way the branches frame the thrasher and complement its eye color.

Alan,

It looks like it was a beautiful day from here. The berries add so much to the image. Very nice shot.

Nice work in some overcast light. Definitely not bad light though. Looks sweet to me. Just the right amount of fill too.

Wonderful shot Alan! :) :) I love how the orange of the eye looks similar to the fruits. I also like the natural framing created by the branches - excellent!

This week's motif is a little funny to me, since I consider cloudy/overcast the ideal lighting for every shooting situation except when there's sky in the BG. Usually when shooting birds in this kind of situation, unless the sun is very low, I usually just sit back and wait for clouds to come before even trying to shoot. So, I consider the lighting you have here to be very good, even with rain! On my recent trip to Trinidad, some of my favorite shots were those taken in a rainstorm (but before the subjects became soaking wet!).
