This little one was on a nice stick that someone had stood up as a perch. I have some nice perched images and thought with the shutter delay on the 10D that I had missed it when it took off, but I got her.

Great action shot Richard, nice lighting. These birds seldom indicate they are about to fly.

Great action. The image looks horribly over sharpened to me. Could be these early morning eyes but I don't think so. There are white specs all over the bird and branch. :?

Rich, I confess, I stood that perch up after seeing nice male vermilion flycatcher on the post there one day. Never got anything on it myself though  . I have to agree with Tony that something is wrong in the processing here but it sure is a nice image.

Awesome take-off!! Kind of looks like it may be a significant crop that is causing the artifacts. :?

Tony and Jim,
You are right the image also looked wrong to me. I think that I originally used the shadow/highlight tool and that made it look grainy. This time I just used levels and some saturation.
Jim, thanks for standing that perch up. I didn't know who did it, but when I saw it I thought it was a great idea.

Great catch of the action! Good job of getting the face illuminated given the direction of the light.

Rich, Looks great now! You're quite welcome on the perch. Glad someone got something on it because I didn't! :D

Great image and great timing! :D :D :D I can relate to your comments about the 10D shutter button - it feels like a stale, dried-out marshmellow, only less responsive... :x

cheers, Oliver
