Comments from several of the guys after my last post that they thought the horizontal woodpecker looked a bit flacid. He was on a different branch for this image and I rotated it about 15 more degrees. Had to add a little canvas in the corners. I wish his head was turned a little more towards me, but really liked the tongue out. That was just luck!

I like the composition you've chosen here, Paul. But, I feel compelled to ask how lightening of the shadow areas was done. The image has a very "photoshopped" look due to the unnatural looking lighting on the bird.

Wayne, What do you mean by shadow areas? A flash was used, and that would be the reflection on the feathers. The BG has some cloning to reduce the highlights through some of the leaves and to create canvas because of the rotation. If it is the bird you are referring to, none other than curves.

Shadow areas was a poor choice of words. On my monitor, the dark areas and the face appear to be washed out. It could just be the plumage on the bird, I guess. Or it could be that it's 11:35 and past my bedtime.

Great behavior Paul. A little less flash would be better imo.

Cool shot, I agree it would be nice if it were looking this way. Going darker on the dark slider in levels would help this one or if shooting again, less fill would help.

That's a cool shot. I didn't know that they used their tail feathers for balance like this? Cool.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Agree on the flash. Still steap on the learning curve there.

Jason, This is a little deceiving because he was a little more upside down -- by 15 degrees actually! :)
