The rule I have broken here is that the subject is centred. I feel it works though because the pine needle clumps frame the subject.

This was taken today after a hard rain. This bird decided to sit in one place for awhile and gave me the opportunity actually to find it in the viewfinder and get it focused!

10D, 500 4.5 + 2x, manual focus, 1/180, f11, Exposure Mode Manual, Flash 0. Slight crop of left and bottom.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

I think different comp would make the photo stronger, but since rules are made to be broken it still works for me. I like the 3 dimensional look.

It works well for me, Eleanor. A lovely image which I would crop from below to the tallest pine needle in the LLC--but then I guess it wouldn't be a rule breaker.

Very nice! The BG and rain drops are a real plus.

The centered bird looks fine to me and the Pine Needles do a nice job of framing the subject.

Nice one. Rules are meant to be broken and this one has nice balance with the diagonal perch and the needle clumps in the corners. The eye is off center and that is more of a focal point to my eye. 8)
