Barn Owl Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, captive

I think this is the same bird Juan B. caught in flight at the Museum. I cloned out the handler's sleeve and sepia-toned the photo to make it show more of my vision of the desert colors at certain times of the day. Digital, 500 mm f/4 lens, 1/250 at f/25, ISO 250, -2 exposure compensation due to extremely bright light. I have always admired this species and have only seen one in the wild at a great distance. To see it right in front of me was a joyful moment.

I agree that the sepia gives this a desert feel. Wonderful portrait!!

Me, too!

(Where did you find a barn in the desert, though? )

Juli,
Lovely bird, very nice with the sepia effect. Two questions: (1) What is the perch? (2) Since you were cloning why not remove the jess straps?
(My photos of this same owl last weekend were rather disappointing.)

The prisoner of Zenda!!

Image:
Killer combination of lighting, bird and the Sepia tones, the perch is nice if a little short, but not a nit, moody and mysterious , the severity of the bird does a lot to enhance the moody ambiance !! Excellent, Congrats!!! 8) 8) 8)

Excellent work Juli. The calm and confident pose of this owl adds to the feel of this image because many times these captive birds get a bit stressed when on display in front of groups of people.

Hi---the perch for this Barn Owl was its handler's glove while on view at the Desert Museum near Tucson, AZ. For the foot motif, I thought I would show the leg holds of this captive bird. The BG is the distant desert. Thanks for commenting!
