This has become an addiction and need all the advice I can get

I've watched some of you Photographers for some time now over the pass couple of years taking notes on your suggestion and so forth trying to learn what I can. I finally got up the nerve to post a Photo of my own. I realize this is a over photographer bird but I wanted to try my new lens out. In the photo I tried to remove some scratch marks on the Neg. that ran upward from the back I guess a grain of sand or two must have found it's way into my camera. I didn't know a Submit button was so hard to hit :o)

Welcome aboard. THis is a very nice Pelican and a great pose. A small part of his foot is cut-off but I am guessing that if you remove the slide from the mount, it may all be there. It's just a bit on the contrasty side.

Tom,

Now that you have hit that Submit button there's no looking back. :D

This is a very nice image. Even though the composition is "unconventional" it still works for me. Unconventional in that the bird is looking out of the frame rather than into it. I love the deep blue background.

Welcome to NatureScapes. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photographs.

Tom:

Welcome aboard, I see you began with good equipment and good technique. The image is sharp, the background lovely. A tad contrasty like EJ said. You may want to shoot early or late in the day or to add alittle fill flash. Great beninning.

Most of the nits have been covered. Welcome and I look forward to more. I joined in Oct/Nov 03, after many years of photography. Since going digital in Apr/03 I have found renewed interest, much stronger than before.

Nice first post, Tom. The critiques I have are already addressed. That aside, I like the composition, also. It adds a little tension by having the bird face out of the frame, but it works for me in this case because it looking down. Work on the contrast and this should be nice.

The blue in the water looks a little over-saturated to me, but this might be related to scanning negative film.
Do you usually shoot negative?
