Spotted Sandpiper Actitis macularia
La Jolla 8-28-05

Found this one roosting at the tide pools. Too bad the reflection wasn't clearer around it's head. Cropped 30%.

Still has some spots. I agree with the head reflection, but still a sweet image. The slight open bill is nice. Don't think I have ever seen one of these standing still like this.

I like the image, the reflection is okay with me, sometimes a too perfect reflection is a bit confusing. :)

Sweet light on this wonderful specimen. I love the pose, open beak :) , catch light, and the way you got it so his feathers are mostly against the blue. Nice angle of approach, too. It is wet and painfull to get that low at "Our Avian Studio" there in La Jolla. How come I usually kneel on a barnacle, sit in a puddle, crawl through poop, slip on a rock, and nothing ever happens to you? You're due, Buddy.

Luckily Mike and most of the gear made it out okay. I don't think he's due again for a while...

Very nice Mike, I've never gotten one of these. You get such nice blue water reflections as LJ. I've also never seen one of these in such an upright position.

Sweet Mike,

I like the reflection as is. If you're concerned, I did a quick PS test and you could burn in the midtone and shadow detail in head of the reflection a bit and add some selective sharpening and it pretty much takes care of it.

So now I understand why you had compasion for my incident

Sweet shot Mike! The head reflection sharper would be the icing, but a fine image as is! 8) :D
