Breeding Plumage Western Sandpiper

My friend George took me to Short Beach in Smithtown yesterday were I was surprised to find this Western Sandpiper this was the only image I was able to get.

Canon 1Dmk2 500mm f4 1.4x 580ex, Tripod, Manual exposure incident meter 1/400 @ 5.6 Iso 400, Flash 0 comp., Auto focus.

Very cool to see it in this good plumage. I am making a trip to La Jolla in the morning to check on the shorebirds.

The seaweed intersecting with the bill is my only nit, but I love the way detail in the plumage. For only one, it's a nice one.
