(Snow Goose) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

Last year, if you put the bird in front of me, I tried to get it's picture. I ended up liking this one even though it's taken from the "Wingman's Position". :)

Tripod mounted Nikon D1H, 500mm AFS, ISO 200, Shutter Priority, 1/500 @ F4, SB-80DX, BB. Cropped about 25% off the length.

Anthony,

A nice "going away shot", love the BG colors. A bit tight on the left side.

I really like the background and the muted light on the bird. Not sure how I feel about the bird moving away...might work better for me if the wing wasn't obstructing parts near the head. I will be the first to admit my opinion may be lacking in vision, though. I like that you tried, and posted, something outside the norm.

Tony, I like this a lot. That tail and the spread toes really show how he slows down and you can just see the air cupped under that wing. A great photo IMO.

Tony,

This is both a pleasing image and a good documentary on Snow Goose flight dynamics.

Too cool. 8)

I'm not normally a fan of "bird moving away" shots but this one really works!
Sweet background, and beautfully lit.

This looks like a really tough shot to get. The DOF looks good and the background is nice.
Great!

For me....I'll take a flight shot anyway that I can get one. Hey...it's from Bosque....and you can call it a work of art. Nice shot.

Tony, I usually try to avoid "butt shots" but sometimes they work.... like here. Love the background too.

An unusual but very effective shot.

Tony,

Very nice flight shot. The fact that he is flying away doesn't detract from this image at all.
