When a Santa Ana condition is present in /sosuthern California and the sun rises in a cloudless sky, the time between soft golden light and stronger, harsher light is very brief. It was probably no more than an hour or so after sunrise when this image was taken, but there are already hard shadows to contend with. At these times I would almost prefer a bright overcast to the cloudless condition (at least where these Pelicans are the subject :) ).
