Least Grebe Pearland, TX

D2X, 600, ISO 250, 1/640 @ f8, -0.7 EV.

Shot this guy yesterday morning in early light from a floating blind. There were over a dozen Grebes that paid no attention to me and came within two feet of me at times, It was a magical morning.

This is really pleasing to look at Alan. The eye is fantastic, the creamy green water is beautiful. Exposure is perfect. Lovely photograph.

Great Shot. The green water is a lovely complement to the sharp yellow eye.

I bought a large truck tire inner-tube, and then cut a piece of ply wood into a circle to the diameter of the tire. I drilled a series of holes around the edges of the wood, and a series of holes about 4 inches closer to the center of the wood, and zip tied the wood to the tube. I entered the water at dark with chest high waders on. I had a large sheet of camo thrown over me and the float. I cut a hole for the lens and put a large rubber band over the lens to hold the netting in place. The lens was on my skimmer which was on the plywood. I just walked behind the float and never had to go deeper than my height of my waders. Simple, but very effective.
