Nubian Vulture landing at kill site, Maasai Mara, Kenya. Canon 500mm f/4 L IS lens with EOS 1D Mark II. ISO 400. Evaluative Metering +2/3 stop set manually: 1/1000 sec. at f/8.

When you are on safari, be on the lookout for kills on mornings when you have the wind and the sun together. The placement of the o-o-f zebras in the frame was entirely serendipitous.

All comments welcome. Best and love, artie

ps to all: the quality of images on now being posted on NSN is truly mind-boggling... Congrats to all involved.

Artie,

Very cool shot with the head on view. It might even work well with a more extreme pano crop by taking the sky off of the top.

Love those razor sharp wing tip feathers and funky feet. What's with those foam rubber leggings? Hope your knee is healing up.

Nice one Artie. Can't say I like the zebras, but do love the head on pose and extended talons.

Hey artie---in regards to your ps above---see what you got started! Thanks for your pioneering work. I know there's been others, but you I feel brought bird photography to the level it is today. Thank you..... Paul

Artie, you da man! The head-on pose and spread talons are fantastic. Not only do I happen to like the Zebras, I feel they really help me visualize where this image was made, in a subtle way.

BTW, thanks for the Bosque guide - full of great info....even packed with amazing photos (imagine  ).

Was this done from a vehicle window? Tough for flight shots, isn't it? Nicely done! :) I would have not noticed the Zebras unless that you mention it.
