Hi All,

This species had been efficiently avoiding my camera for a number of years. Saturday afternoon I had some great opportunities with this drake but not till the sun had dipped behind some leaves. Fortunately he paused here on a small patch of water color with a slight bit of light filtering through the leaves behind me.

Eos 20D, 500mm IS, 1.4x TC, 86% of the frame
1/500 sec, f/5.6
Mode: Av
Metering: Evaluative
ISO: 400
AF mode: AI Servo AF
Drive: Continuous: frame 1
White balance: Auto
Flash: Off

Thanks for looking and for your honest critiques. Good Shooting!

Brian this is beautiful with the leaf color reflected in the water. I wish my Hoody shots had this kind of lighting. Guess I'll just have to keep working at it. Congrats!

Super shot, Brian. I am envious. Likewise, the drakes have not allowed me any really killer shots of them, either. I have some nice hen shots but the drakes continue to tease me. This gives me hope. Thanks for sharing it.

Fabulous shot of this beautiful bird. Unfortunately the nearest I get to one of these is the local wildfowl collection. The colours are just sensational.

Brian--You couldn't have ordered better colors in the water for this bird to be in! Absolutely wonderful. The yellow in the eye brought out by the yellow in the water, and the golden brown water making his sides stand out. Then the bright white zaps your attention right back to his face and hood. I can only nit that maybe adding some turf to the left and to the bottom, to off center him a little might be an improvemnet. Gorgeous :)

Brian,

Beautiful shot. Love the pose with the raised crest. The water color couldn't be better.

So very beautiful Brian! Just the bird with the hood would have been great but with that water...ooo la la!!! Agree with getting the bird a bit off center but still a killer image!

This is one killer hoodie shot. The drake is in fine form and captured with excellent detail and pose. The water adds a great dose of golden, molten goodness :) and the over-all color tone is superb.

I'm cool with the balance of the comp as presented, since the bird + reflection is a bit below center as is. Quite a lot of canvas would have to be deleted or added left to decenter the head all that much, and I couldn't say it would really improve the visual impact of this good-lucking guy. A stunner -- well done!
