Common Eider
Churchill, Manitoba

It was fantastic to be wading in the water with Common Eiders - the first time I had ever seen and/or photographed them.

Digital capture with Canon 1D
Canon 500 f4 with 2x TC
Manually exposed at 1/800, f11
ISO 250
Tripod, Wimberley Sidekick, Cabela's chest waders

A not so common killer image of a Common Eider, Heather. Well done.

A beauty, Heather. Absolutely gorgeous. DOF carrying through to the far wing and a nicely blurred BG. What more could you want. Okay maybe 100 or 200 more images.

A fascinating bird I've yet to meet ...
Great exposure and low angle. Very nice, Heather!

I love photographing these birds but its so difficult to get it right with their colour scheme - especially the eye area! You've done a great job here!! 8) :D

I love that bird. I had a couple occasions to see some in northern Europe a while ago.
Nice picture, shows the head details wonderfully.
