Great Egret ( Ardea alba)

I have been a long time lurker and admirer of this great site. I have learned more from this site in the past 8 months than I have learned otherwise in the past 8 years. Thank You !

This photo was taken late afternoon at the Venice Rookery in Venice, FL.

I would have liked a touch more flash on the bird, perfect opportunity for flash in manual mode, properly exposed for high-lites the flash would have brought out the bird's front , still very nice as is!! Congrats!!

Michael,

Welcome to posting on NSN!! This is an excellent first post. I like this as is and see no need for fill flash. I like for there to be a tonal range in images like this and you did very well with the backlighting here.

Michael excellent first post... you picked A very difficult subject at the most difficult time. I have not seen many shots from the Rookery that I like but this is one of them.

You have done as much as can be expected, eliminated much of the clotter in the BG and the bird shows well enough. Agree with previous suggestions but do want to
congratulate on this fine image. Hope you will posting more soon. :D

Great shot Michael. It's difficult to get a shot like this with the Egret's aigrettes so perfectly evenly spread. I personally feel flash would have helped make this beautiful image pop a bit more. Definitely nice as is, however.
