Santa Barbara Bird Refuge- Santa Barbara, CA

After processing this for web presentation I realized I probably could have tried the combined conversion technique to recover some detail in the wing. I might just give that a shot tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, all comments are appreciated. Thanks for looking! :)

Where was the cute alert!? I was totally unprepared!

To be honest, I wouldn't have even noticed the minor "hot spot" if you hadn't pointed it out, the character in this image is just overwhelming! The little bowed head is so cute. I also like that the shoreline is quite low and intersects at the legs, not with the body, and the two toned background is really cool! (Can you tell I like this?)

Feel free to give the combined conversion technique a try and do a repost if you like the results for us to compare to. It would be interesting to see.

This is very nice - the minor hot spot on the wing is not a big deal in this image.

Its really a sweet shot and I like it alot. The more I look at it the more I think the duckling has a little mischevious look on its face... thanks for the post..

I think the dictionary should include this image for the definition of cute. The hot spot is so minor as to be very negligible.

Hi Laura!

What hot spot? Such a small area I didn't even notice. Very Cute!

Laura,

What a wonderfully adorable duckling. Way to cute to worry about a little hot spot. Definitely rings the cuteness bell. Way to go and thanks for sharing.

Laura, have I seen this or a similar shot before?

Regardless this little bugger has cute written all over it! The look on the duckling's face is so adorable and engaging. This would certainly make a great greeting card. I don't even notice the hot spot without you mentioning it. The only way I can think to improve upon this is to have a uniform background, but I am having a hard time even noticing the background the way it is!

I too am curious as to the species. If it wasn't for the feet and bill I'd say mallard, but I suspect it is a hybrid with a mallard and the Aflak duck ;)

Hi Alan. There were many various species swimming at the refuge that day and I am not 100% sure. However, I'm pretty sure this is some variety of Domestic Mallard based upon what others have said. :)

Laura, have I seen this or a similar shot before?

Hi Greg. You've probably seen a similar shot taken from the same day. In the other image, the duckling is looking more directly at the me and the background is almost black in color. I'm tickled to see that image would be remembered, though between the two I prefer this one. :)

I think you're probably on the money concerning the species!

A cuteness alert is warranted here. I'm so afraid to mention the little h*t sp*t :)

You just say duckling and expect me to be forewarned about a cute bird. I don't think so! :?
This is SO CUTE! I only wish the background was the darker color across the frame.

Detail in the wing? What wing? :) This little guy is so charming I don't see any reason to worry about the small stuff. Cute as heck.

Too cute for words. I love how the softness of its down is portrayed in this image while keeping detail throughout.

Excellent!!
