(Greater Roadrunner) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

This is a continuation of my series of images from my two weeks at Bosque. My intent is to make the images flow as though they all occurred during a single day. Of course, they occurred during the two weeks I was there. :)

This is the forty second post of the series. The time is now 13:45 pm.

If you are wondering what happened to 40 and 41, you will find them in the wildlife gallery where I posted, appropriately, a coyote. This image was taken at the beginning of the Marsh Loop where this Roadrunner wanted to cross the road and was having a problem since I was on the other side. It did make it after it posed for a few images. It spent most of the time, hiding in the bushes since cars kept driving by wonder what I was pointing my big lens at. 8)

I'm not sure if the backlighting works on this one but I don't think I lost too much detail to the angle of the light or the fact that I hadn't gotten the flash on the camera yet.

Tripod/Wimberley mounted Nikon D2H, 600mm AFS, TC-20EII, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, 1/1500 @ F8. Full Frame.

The quartering backlight works fairly well here - I'm usually not a fan of that but it looks pretty good here.

Nice portrait. I agree that the backlighting works with this one. :)

Crazy-looking bird! I like the greenish-tannish BG but would consider removing a little of that greenish from the bird just to see what it looks like.

Tony:

Nice portrait, you may want to give a little fill flash and a highlight in PS.

Cool portrait Tony. The bill tip is soft but you knew that already. Looks like you had enough light to stop down though. Great comp and the crest slightly raised is nice.

I like the way the lighting shows up the fine feather detail on his throat!

Ahhh, The most photographed roadrunner at Bosque, lighting looks good, considering where you had to stand and dodge the traffic.
Good shot Tony
