Yet another of our temporary locals. It kind of looks like this bird is banded. To my knowledge, that doesn't take place around here. So this bird would really be visiting.

10D, 500 IS, ISO 200, f/8, 1/1000

All comments appreciated and thanks for looking.

Well done Ed. I like the diagonal positioning in the frame.

Nicely framed. There is a slight halo around the bird like you were trying to bring out shadow detail. Or maybe it's a sharpening artifact. I really like the light. :)

Beautiful shot. I would crop a tad more off the right. The halo Tony mentions looks like it's from sharpening. It would be better to do most of the sharpening with only the bird selected. This would prevent the halo and also reduce the noise that I am seeing in the sky. Otherwise a fine shot!

I like the diagonal of the bird and your comp here. The light is really sweet, too, well done.

Great capture Ed! I like the composition here, and the warm light is GREAT.

You must have some open water up there huh? We're pretty much all forze up down here in Des Moines, the river is so low that even the swift water areas I usually shoot over are frozen.

Great light and shooting to you all!

There is usually lots of open water down here by the roller dam. One of these days these guys will be gone for another year. But it's sure fun when they are around.

Ed, very nice shot.

I know Ohio became very concerned with their diminishing eagle populations in the 1970's and has sponsored banding of nesting eagles (only four nests in 1979, last year nearly 90). I have been told wildlife biologists from other states have also banded eagles in the past but I do not know if these programs are still active. Because these birds may live over 30 years in the wild, this band may have been placed several decades ago. It is great to see a resurgence of these birds.
