Can one possibly get a unique shot of pelican preening behavoir? I don't know. There are only so many ways that these Pelicans preen, but I liked the curves and angles in this image.

I have many shots like this and it is hard to get all the elements together for a good one. DOF, bill sharp, composition and bg are all excellent. It even has its eye open which is a bonus.

Excellent image, but I would sure put that 100-400 on a tripod and shoot at a lower ISO. Assume you were doing flight shots at the same time?
