STL Bosque del Apache, NM

After observing the geese for a brief moment, it was easy to see where in the sky they would begin their bank into the wind and light on approach to landing in the field. Once we had our "window of opportunity" we could now determine the focal length and settings necessary to render the image as desired. Going vertical allows me to make the subject larger in the frame, and presents an image not normally viewed.

1D, 500mm w/ 2X

exposure 1/60 @ f/11

Best,

Chas

Hey Chas,

This is very nice. I'd crop a bit from the top.

Cheers

Very nice shot Chas... you always do nice things with verticals in camera. The colors and white work well together here.

What's especially nice here is the balance of action, blurred, of both wings and the sharp head.

This would also work as a square.

Don't touch a thing !!, ever so rare are those who can envision things they want to capture, even fewer are those who are able to capture their visions well!!, I am almost sure I will never get there, but boy would I love to!!!

Chas,

Gorgeous image. Love the sharpness of the head combined with the motion in the wings.

The bird alone is great but add the tricolored bg and this is quite an image. Congrats.

Killer Chas -- I'd never have thought you could get such a sharp result in one area of the image at 1/60th. Cool.

I tried so many pan blurs at Bosque, and of hundreds of images I'm not happy with a single one. This is SO cool, I love the triple layer background and the position of the bird in flight.

1/60th? What was the wind doing, was the bird flying into moderate resistance?
