Thanks again to the work of Juan Pons, we have been able to make the following changes:

In response to those of you using the 800x600 setting on your monitors, the forum header has been modified and will hopefully make it so you no longer have to scroll horizontally.

Also, links to other parts of the site have been added under the main logo. This should provide easy access to other parts of the site, such as the home page, archives, guidelines, and more.

Thanks, but the credit really belongs to Juan who has worked very hard to help shape the operations and appearance of the forums. :D

I am one of the few who still use a 15", 600 X 800 screen. Not having to scroll horizontally every sentence when reading each post is such a wonderful blessing. Thank you ! Thank you so much ! This is very much appreciated ! :D :D

I love this site. Many of the features are new to me (and wonderful), I don't spend a lot of time surfing the web anywhere but a couple (exactly 2) photo-related sites. As a 56K (I want to kill myself) user the one feature that would help me is the ability to go from one forum to another without having to go back to the index. The extra time it takes going through the index page to change forums sometimes sends me to bed. :(

Robert, at the bottom of every page is a Jump To section where you can pick the exact forum you want to jump to without having to go back to the index.

On that note, some of us with fast connections like a purely hierarchical system--we always want to go back to where we were using the back button. NSN isn't too bad for that, except when you make a post. IO'd much prefer a pop-up to enter the post in, so it doesn't screw up the back button's performance in the forum window.

I'm not sure what you mean, Paul. I understand the part about a pop-up window. But do you mean you want to go back to the gallery after you make a post? If so, it is easy; immediately after after you comment you will briefly see the following message:

"Your message has been entered successfully.

Click Here to view your message

Click Here to return to the forum"

This gives you a brief moment to make the choice to return to the forum or return to the post. If you do nothing you will be automatically taken back to the post you commented on.

If this is not what you are referring to, can you please elaborate?

When you go to make a post, use the right mouse button and use the open in new window option when pointing to the post reply or new post option. This also works when pointing to the Image Upload option.

It's even easier on the Mac using Safari. Simply hold the apple key when you are clicking those links. It then opens the page in a new tab.

Holding down "shift" works on a Windows PC with IE or Opera. "Ctrl" works with Netscape...

Thanks Andrew. My point is that you don't need the window to automatically pop up, you can make it happen yourself.

I had been trying to pluck up the courage to ask for this change, but with so few posts to date was concerned I would be seen as a moaner, (or as my Australian friends would say a whinging Pomm  )

Thank you for the change :)

Greg,

You can go back to the forum using the link on the page that you describe. The problem is what happens when you press the back button in the forum. In a properly-designed hierarchical website, this should take me to the page I entered the forum from (i.e., the list of forums). What it does do, though, is take me back to the page that you described asking if I want to view my message or go back to the forum.

I understand that some people don't use the back button the way I do, but as I recall, when I made this suggestion on another site, enough people agreed with me that it was eventually implemented.

Tony,
As I recall that was how things worked in an earlier version of the site I mentioned above as well. Someone gave me that same information there, and I still never bothered using it (cursing the screwed up back button seemed better than shift-clicking for some reason). I was much happier when the structure changed.

Thank you.
At the main forum page (index), there are several options towards the upper right corner:

View posts since last visit
View your posts
View unanswered posts

If you would like to see the most recent posts by a specific individual, in viewing their profile there's an option to "see posts by...". Selecting that, you can even see the first few sentences of each post. If it's an image post, you can usually see the "http://..." line at the top.

Hope this helps!
