Common Mina Bird
The name "Common" belies how smart these birds are, although exotic and very free around certain areas of Miami, they are true survivors par excellence; They have nested around my local Coffee Shop for years, very good and successful parents as well, I suspect the mate for life, never loosing track of each other, it is endearing to see them forage for food as they look for dropped cracker or pastry flakes that drop to the ground around the front counter; Once I decided to buy them "Mina Food"at the local pet shop, Boy was I wrong!!!, Totally ignoring my expensive treat they went around looking for the fatty stuff !! If the male finds food he calls to her, she runs and takes it away from him to be devoured alone, But is she finds any edible morsel, not a peep from her as to alert him to the find!!, I suspect this is from the nesting time in which he does most of the food gathering!!, She is also slightly bigger than him and a little less shy. Although the parking lot is their first choice as a foraging area, they are very well adept at keeping their eyes trained on the constant moving traffic, I have never witnessed a close call when it comes to them!! D1x, Raw, Lens=70-200mm afs-VR f/2.8 +2X, FL=400mm, Incident metering, 1/500sec SS-f/8, EV=-0.3, ISO=200, WB=Auto, D-TTL -1.5EV Any comments and or reposts are always welcome!! Alex Calzadilla
