This is a very handsome little bird. He obligingly alighted on this beautiful and mossy stump. Can't argue with that! To me this looks like a "set up" shot but... it isn't.

This shot was taken in Costa Rica in April of this year.

Hope you enjoy it.

David

If you hadn't told me I would have sworn this was a Murphy perch ;-)

Beautiful image!

I really like the pose and background. The brightness of the moss is a bit distracting though.

Still a great shot!

:)

And thanks for your tips as to good shooting locations.

5 Days till I get down to Costa. Cant wait....

The sharpness and clarity on this little bird is fantastic. Beautiful pose, perfect background. Just wondering if the big perch is needed? Perhaps cropped off to just below the bird's feet. The color rendition in this image is stunning.

David, a sweet shot of a sweet bird. I agree with Steve, cropping tighter would help the image. If the perch was not so hot and more in focus, I'd leave it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am pretty fond of the 'hot' stump despite the size and OOF foreground. Different strokes for varying types of persons.

A terrific shot, David!
I find the oof stump a rather distracting. Perhaps cropping some from bottom might help ...

Oh man! he is lovely. He would look so good in so many settings. The only nit for me would be the real OOF foreground stump. I like his head angle.

The bird is gorgeous - nice light, details and great eye contact. The perch is too massive and the moss looks a bit hot on my monitor. I would crop it to a square leaving out as much of the perch as possible.

I wish the stump didn't have so much OOF area, but the bird itself is so cool ! And a seldom-photographed species, too.

Super shot! I love the pose and headturn... very sharp looking and beautiful colors...
I would reprocess the moss on the bottom left to make it slightly less bright.. but like you said.. different strokes.. :)
