I am impressed with how sharp it is for 500 +x2 combo handheld!! I love everything in this shot except for the small size of the bird in the frame. This setting could be perfect for a Buzzard size bird...

I'm going to go the opposite here. I like this shot with the barbwire and the post in the shot. Going in closer would of removed the elements. The background colors go nicely with the colors in the bird.

Jimmy

From the location given and the eye ring looks like a Vesper Sparrow to me.

Nice shot with a great background.

I love this James...wonderful light, a tight portrait would be just a portrait, this says so much about the Sparrows of the Prairies...

Another vote for Vesper..

I would be very very happy with this, great job..

I'll agree with the ID of Vesper Sparrow. I'm indecisive about the size of the bird. My first reaction was I wanted it larger but then as I've thought more about it I like it the way it is. The one thing that does bother me is it seems unbalanced with the bird staring into the short part of the frame. How much of a crop is this ? Any more room to play around with the composition ?

Love the composition -- I think it works very well as is. A bird close up sitting on barb wire would likely not be so interesting as this. Great job.

The pole seems to complete with the little bird ...
Nice shot nonetheless, Jimmy!

I don't have a problem about the bird being small in the frame. Light & colours work for me too.

I'm with Michael on the comp though, this would have worked better for me personally as a landscape format with the bird looking into the frame rather than looking out as it is here.
