I took this back in May (Lundbreck, Alberta), but haven't posted it because I was never too sure about it. But it still puts a smile on my face every time I see it, so I thought I'd share...

This was shot from my car window, using a Kirk WM-2. Unfortunately, I couldn't fit the flash in the window too, so this is just available light. (I believe the sun is actually right behind the bird.) After getting a couple of shots, I tried to get out to use a tripod so I could mount the flash, but he flew off to another tree.

Canon 20D, Sigma 50-500. Cropped only for composition.

Looks good to me. Nice detail in the feathers and the look is a killer. My preference would be no flash anyway. :)

Love the hairdo, Paul. Too bad he didn't stick around for you to experiment with the flash.

I love the expression and the pose. Probably it would be stronger if you could have used flash -- the bright sky overpowers teh bird a bit but that face is so great! Made me smile too. :)

That's a really cool expression! The sky looks to be two different shades depending on which side of the branch you are on, which is little distracting.
