A backyard garden shot from this morning. It appears that the males have departed our garden, here in upstate NY. Three females remain.

Canon 500MM F4 and 1.4x, one flash, ISO 400, f5.6, EC of -1/3 and flash comp of +1. A 50% crop from the original. I have had success using the 2x and even stacked 1.4 and 2x with stationery hummingbirds but not birds in motion.

Love the pose, flowers, and background! There seems to be a little loss of sharpness, although perhaps my eyes are weary after a full day at the computer. I love the colors in this bird, how nicely lit is is throughout. Looks like you have a good hummingbird setup.

The sharpness factor might be the combined impact of my taken shutter speed, subject movement, and my cropping. I'd love to improve my technique for these birds but will have to wait til next year.

Wonderful image, Jeff. I like the crop -- sweet colors and nice smooth background. The critical areas look sharp to me. I think the angle on the bird is perfect.

Agree with the softness. Nice shot otherwise, Jeff!

I think I see what Heather sees, but I really like the comp and the wing position. Nice job, Jeff.
