In anticipation of the shorebirds which have just started their migration I thought I'd post a Red Knot that I shot at Ft. Desoto on the trip I took when school was out. I had hoped to catch some shorebirds in breeding plumage. I was lucky with the Red Knots as a group of about 30 were present on the first day that I got there but were gone by the next day.

It took most of the morning to get close to them.....and one isolated enough to get an individual shot. I really liked the coloration and detail that I got with the "fluffy" look. It was pretty windy as you can tell by the turned up feathers and ripples in the water.

Canon 1DMkII, 500mmL IS, 1.4X TC, tripod, 580EX
ISO 400, f/10, ss 1/1250, fill flash
PS: cropped all around, USM, levels, etc.

Great shot Lana. You probably shot this around the same time I caught a hole flock of them working the shoreline. I was never able to isolate just one and capture this type of shot however. Nicely done; breeding plumage and all puffed up as well.
