Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus)

I went out for Clapper Rails one morning, a couple of weeks ago, and drew a big zero. I was leaving the area when I spyed this little gem from the side of the road. He was pretty cooperative, but the fates were conspiring against me; heavy overcast skies, having to shoot from the window, as he would fly off when I tried to get out, forced to shoot with the 2X teleconverter to get a decent subject size in the viewfinder, did I mention 10-15mph breeze. I just sat and waited with my face glued to the back of the camera and took what I could every time the wind would calm for a second or two. I got lucky on a few. Since I have nil on this species, I wasn't about to pass up the chance. This is a 40% crop for web posting. All comments welcome.

I wouldn't call this one a zero, Wayne. Great shot.

Would put up with those conditions, and worse, to get an image as nice as this of a Flycatcher, Wayne!!!

Looks like you nailed him. Using a 2X and fighting wind makes it tough, but you did very well.

Nice image.

Very nice, Wayne. I'd crop so the branch fits into the LLC.

While a wonderful suggestion, Sandy, this is a pretty big crop as is and I didn't want to push my luck. I try not to post anything I would probably not be able to print. :D
