Enough people are posting really good GGOW images so I thought I'd post a bird I was working
to get a good image of this past weekend.

Canon 10D(steve's), Canon 600mm f/4, ISO 200, 1/320 @ f/9, fill -1 2/3.

Regards,

Terry

Terry:

Excellent angle, background, perch, and colors. The head seems a little soft on my flat screen LCD.

Great perch and a wonderful bird! I found a flock of about 20 of these guys before, but no males!

Great job Terry. I got some decent shots when I was there but nothing this good. The bird is well separated from the background.

Very well done. I still have no decent shots of the male of this species.

I like everything about it except the soft head, Terry!
The focus was on the wing tip instead ... :(

Gorgeous bird against that dark bg. I'm sure you just don't have anymore good Owl shots to post.   Love that new avatar.

This has to be a monitor thing because I can see the bristle feathers under the bird's chin clearly, and there is a small feather sticking out of the lower back part of the head that is clear as well. I think with f/9 there is plenty of DOF. Is my new monitor that clear and crisp?

Regards,

Terry

PS - Mike, owls what makes you think I got owl images ;-)

*EDIT*

I did some selective sharpening on the head and beak area. After doing that I see what was being mentioned by all of you. Thanks for the help.

Against that dark BG the color is really stunning. I might almost think about removing the OOF branch.

Terry,

Beautiful shot. The colors in the bird look great against the dark background.
