Green Violet Ear (Colibri thalassinus) from Monteverde (Costa Rica).
Not completely sure about the identification. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

10D, EF 100-400 L IS, Ex 550 + BB, handheld.
ISO 400, f/11, 1/90

Monteverde N.P.
Costa Rica

Joan, your ID is correct. I have shot them there myself. Wonderful detail. Perhaps a bit tight and if you had got a frame with his head turned this way. it would be better.

Beautiful colors. In general, I too prefer a bird not to be looking away.

love it , the background is very complimentary to the bird. the bird's bill in this position is very striking and makes the head turn less of an issue. thanks for posting.
