Snail Kite (Rostrhamus socialilis)
Shark Valley Environs, ENP, FL, on 24 Feb 2004

This Snail Kite picked up a snail with his talons and lost it on the way to feeding his brood. He was one angry bird.

This is one of my previously unposted Snail Kite images. It has a graphic quality. I look forward to their nesting again this February.

Thanks for looking. Comments, critiques, and reposts are welcome.

Nice as usual. I need to make a trip down there to get some images. Maybe I could swap a few Northern Hawk Owls for one of these ;-)

An angry red eyed bird. Can't be any angrier or captured any better.

I love the open screaming beak. It adds character to an already very nice image and adds graphically to your comments.

Well done, as usual, Sandy.

Excellent shot! With that red eye and hooked bill I suspect looking angry is pretty normal. I'd prefer the wings to be more up or down but then again I'd prefer that I had any shots of a Snail Kite, let alone one this good!

Great shot Sandy. The open bill and lowered legs make it for me.
