Jim, you did it again. With that background to maintain focus is phenomenal. Did you use your same method of going one-shot and just refocusing as the bird moves? Great Shot

Thanks Rob. Yes - I used the one shot AF method. I shoot a lot of non sky bgs, so I usualy avoid using AI Servo AF. The hawk was on a fence post. I waited and watched, trying to be ready when he decided to fly. He took off with no warning, so I missed the takeoff, but he actualy flew in a direction that allowed me to get a few shots off in good light. I got off 5 shots of his fly by and all 5 were in focus. With the one shot method I usually know if I miss focus, so I don't pull the trigger. This results in a very high percentage of in focus shots, but fewer attempts. The hard part is getting the bird in the right position in the right light with the right bg, but you knew that already. :)

Great shot Jim! This is beautiful. Only thing that would make it better is a bit more of a head turn but I'm not missing it all here. Fantastic.

Hey Jim, you are killing me here.

Someone got a 20D for xmas and is thrilled to see there is hope for flight shots with that camera.

Love the position in the frame and the name sake field mark on full display.
