First shot of a Merlin and this crow comes in to scare him off -- during the Bosque trip this was the only Merlin I had a chance to photograph.

thinking it is a common raven and not a crow, based on size, plumage, and bill size.

Actually my guess is that it could be a Raven and Prairie Falcon! Nice behavior.

boy from the comments I am embarrassed to say I don't know my birds
I was so excited to finally have a Merlin, oh well I do have a few shots before the raven appeared so I will label it as Prairie Falcon. Thanx all.

Great capture, good dof on both subjects. Definitely an adult prairie falcon and a raven. Looks like the prairie might have just finished a meal and the raven was looking for a handout.

Definitely a Prairie Falcon (hood and dark arm-pits) and Raven. If this was my only shot of a Prairie Falcon, I would be pretty happy. Nice job.

Good action. The crows and ravens at Bolsa Chica regularly harass the raptors. You'd think that they'd fight back, but they seem to always just leave the area

Excellent timing and action Brian.

There is a Merlin hanging out at the Manassas Battlefield right now, on the side near NOVA, and the "fortress pond" which I think I gave you directions to? He flew RIGHT over me, but unfortunately he turned his head away when I got the picture...
