Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes)
Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Delray Beach, FL, on 1 Dec 2003

Since Wako was redecorated with foliage in October 2003, clear backgrounds have been tough to get. Nevertheless, this yellowlegs looked quite provocative walking through the young fireflag foliage.

I hope you enjoy the images. Critiques, comments, and reposts are welcome.

Just a beautiful natural image here Sandy. The lush greens add to the interest. Always nice to see your images!

Very nice shot Sandy and certainly different from many of your perfect BG images. I love the way you have caught the bird weaving through the reeds. Such a lovely, natural picture. Excellent job and a delight to view, as always!! 8) 8) 8) 8) :)

great capture Sandy!
You do a great job with images with habitat as well as clean backgrounds.
:)
A small suggestion is to remove the white patch near the top.. I think it would add more impact... but the image is still a winner if you keep it.

A wonderful habitat shot! I might darken the bright highlight in the ULC as it does draw attention from the bird. Love the composition!

Sandy, a nice setting and a very nice shot. I might put the catchlight higher in the eye.

:D :D Very lovely clean image. It's so much better than seeing birds out in the open, as is usual with this species. I like the raised foot very much.

Alan, I reexamined my RAW file and found a prominent catchlight in this exact location.

Great shot Sandy,

Give me a natural environment over a clean colour wash background any day of the week.

Sandy,

If you can't get a clear BG this is the BG you would want. It's just personal preference but if you were to crop just below the two leafy parts of the foliage in the upper left you would have almost all the diagonals of the foliage leaning to the left and the bird moving to the right. This seems to create a stronger image (at least to my eye).

Unusual to find an Yellowlegs in the foliage Sandy, very nicely framed. The removed white OOF image is much better.

Sandy,

A wonderful image !

The only nit I see is the limitation
of the 1D at ISO 400. Has a weird
grainy look to it or I guess it is just not
as clean as the D10.

I CAN NOT wait to see some shots
from you Canon MKII !!

Thanks for Sharing !

Beautiful habitat for a bird to move through. The repost is stronger and I like your composition. Neil's idea sounds like a good idea too.

Nice habitat shot! I prefer these to portraits that give no clue about the environment. Thanks for sharing.
