I do a lot of my local photography at Bombay Hook NWR, where this image was taken last week. Egrets and herons are so plentiful there, and I have photographed them so much, that I often don't stop to take their pictures, preferring to keep moving in search of something less common to shoot.

Unlike locations in Florida, the egrets and herons here don't have predictable flight paths, or nest in accessible areas, so most of the photo opportunities are wading and feeding shots. On this morning however, I came across several egrets that were more active and closer to shore. Though the late morning light was harsh, I tried to make the best of the opportunity given.

Perfect launch moment. The midday light is handled well for a bright white bird and I like the position of the wings high up and ready to swoop down for the power stroke. At first I thought I might like the bird more to the left in the frame but seeing the sticks and where it is pushing off from balances the shot somehow. 8)

Very good shot for the lighting conditions. I particularly like that the far bank does not interfere with the image, good placement.

Congratulations

btw very nice looking bird !!!!
