Far from perfect, but the best robin shot I've managed so far.
Image
EOS 300D, ISO 100, 75-300 Lens @ 300MM, F5.6, 1/500 sec, 550EX fill flash set to minus 1 stop.

PS - dSLR Tools action to correct the under exposure. Cropped.

I have better exposed versions but he's not singing in them. The crop is also straining the resolution - it was cropped to about 700 pixels wide.

Nevertheless, I'm happy with it as it took a lot of effort to get close enough to him and to get some sunshine on him in this quite dense woodland.

Andy, This is a great singing shot. In this situation, I might expose for the BG and use flash as main for the bird.

The sounds of spring abound :D great capture of the singer

As the robin is pretty cleanly silhouetted you could do some selective work in PS to bring down the BG exposure a little if you desired.

Catching the beak at the apex of the song really makes this image for me. Excellent timing!!.
