I love chickadees! This looks very much like the black-capped we have here in Michigan. I'll have to get out my field guide to see what the differences are.

The background is great and I like the pose of the bird on one plane which allows the most of the bird to be sharp. Also, nice use of fill flash. My only nits are that you could probably crop off some of the extra BG at the top or crop it as a horizontal, the freshly snapped off twig on the perch (a little dirt rubbed on these almost makes them disappear) and it's tail touching the edge of the frame.

Nice shot!

Greg covered all of my nits very well.

This image is sized too big. You made the short side 650. If you could resize and repost that would be great.

Very nice image. :)

Hi,

Because the Black-capped chickadee and the Carolina chickadee are so similiar, I thought I would check some of my field guides:

National Geographic: "Note that Carolina lacks broad white edgings on greater wing coverts; lower edge of black bib is usually neater, has less olive on flanks than Black-capped." The other difference is the Black-capped is a little larger bird. This would seem to me that it's probably a Black-capped chickadee, just like you and Greg suggested.

Great background. The bird really pops. My only nit is the tail and how close it is to the edge.

A fine image, Blake. Lovely BG. I wish for a bit more room for the tail and a moderate top crop.
