Canon 1Ds

1/15 f/7.1 ISO 400
Tripod
Zephyrhills, FLorida

It was 43 degrees, the wind was blowing about 20 mph, it's before sunrise, I am shivering and disgusted because the Sandhill Cranes have all decided to lift off early. I can't get better than 1/20 at f/5.6. But I could not resist taking some flight shots anyway in the hope that panning would work. Well, it didn't but the abstract look of this shot was worth the cold and the effort. I have had it printed at 18 X 12 on photographic paper with a luster finish and it is stunning. (If you like impressionist stuff that is!)

Comments and suggestions for how to deal with light like this would be appreciated.

Love it Bill.

I have one similar of Wattled Cranes from Botswana. I just love this kind of shot. Well done.

This is pretty nice! It's just sharp enough to clearly ID the birds as SHC's. The colors and BG are wonderful. I'll bet your large print does look stunning!

I would say that 1/20 2 f/5.6 was just right. I like the look and feel of this. It works for me.

Cool shot. The necessity of the slow speed really worked for you.
