Steve, I have enough trouble sighting and focusing with just one teleconverter. Nice photo.

Gorgeous bird and a nice composition. There are sharpening artifacts visible throughout.

EJ,
How do you see the artifacts and I don't? What do you use as a monitor, or do you enlarge?? Some people here see and comment on sharpening artifacts and some dont' see them. Is it just education for the eye, or do different monitors show differently, or do they enlarge the images?
Thanks
Steve

Nope no enlargement - just viewing it on a monitor - they are very clear on the underside of the tree and on any right-side subject to sky edge. If you don't see them then your monitor is out of focus or just not up to the task of critical photo work.

I also see the artifacts on this, Steve. They're visible on the right and lower edge of the tree and the upper and right edges of the bird. They appear as a lighter area between the sky and the tree and the sky and the bird.

Nice shot but I see obvious sharpening halos as well. All CRT monitors will degrade over time - I wouldn't trust anything over 3 years old for critical work. Also, I would sharpen the image first and then add text.

cheers, Oliver

Cool shot of a really cool bird. 8)

I'm seeing sharpening halos along the right edges like E.J. said. Using the Smudge tool with a hard (non-feathered) 3pt brush will clean up the artifacts.

I looked again and found that I had saved two versions of this image. Here is the first, the one above is the oversharpened one. Comments??
