Ok, I have had some bad luck with used big lenses, the Sigma 500 that I purchased first was not sharp, so back it went. The other day I purchased a Canon 500 f4.5, and the AF motor seems to be going bad on it. It snaps into focus, than you can visibly see it go back out of focus. I have resigned myself to getting a brand new Canon 500f4 IS. I have already purchased the tripod, ballhead and Sidekick in anticipation of using it with the Sigma originally, the question is, will the Sidekick support the Canon 500f4?

I use the Canon 500f/4 with the Sidekick, I just recommend a good ballhead to go with the combination.

I use my Kirk BH-1 / Sidekick combo on my window mount with no problems. As Heather pointed out, the ballhead is definitely the key.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the 500f4 was significantly heavier than the f4.5 version. I have the BH-1 + Sidekick combo, so it looks I am good to go, it just looks like it wasn't in the cards for me to save the $$$ on the used option, too bad it cost me about $90 in shipping, oh well
