This is really excellent all around. It just lacks a bit of life in the eyes to make it pop. The DOF and bg colors are well done.

The contemplative pose really grabs me. I would like to see some sparkle in the eyes but this is excellent as is.

The eyes have been mentioned. The only thing needed to make this really pop.

Dear Laura, took the liberty to play with your image, I am hoping that you don't mind!!, As presented there is a heavy reddish cast to it and no catchlite, First I fixed the cast problem by using levels and finding the white point, not perfect but a great improvement and the cast is gone, second, I went to work on the eye, copy and paste the eye on top of the original image, adjusted curves to bring about as much detail as possible, I had to do this twice, eventually some detail came out, I was able to determined a very faint catchlite and I proceeded to enhance the same, darkened the center of the eye to give it reference , flattened the image and Presto!!! , It is in my view a tad better, The pensive mood is all yours and very well taken!!! Congrats!!! 8)

Hi Alex. I don't mind at all! I seem to be on the red side a lot lately... Maybe time to recalibrate my monitor...

The color corrected version looks so much better. Thanks for your time. :)

Color corrected version looks good -- image from the start was already a winner.

Nice portrait of a great bird - looks a bit dark and the eyes don't have any life in them. I think this could easily be improved a lot with a photo program - I see Alex has done that already!

Maybe I need to send one of my Sandhills to Alex, it needs a little bit of the beak to finish the image.

Both of you did great work. Excellent image. :D
