10D 100/400-375mm - 1/60 ƒ5.6 EV-2/3 - Tripod-Sidekick Beamer Fill Flash -1 2/3

Taken on 12/15/03 at Homossassa Springs State Park, Florida. Although taken at this park this bird is not a captive. It is one of the many freeloaders who fly in for the free lunch buffet provided for the parks captive residents who cannot fly away for a number of injury related reasons.

I love the background in this and the diagonal of the head - not only turned slightly towards the camera but also slightly downward, showing off the red. It may be that my monitor is too bright, but I am curious what the RGB reading is on the whitest patch on the cheek, seems to be a small area with lack of detail.

Really nice capture and very well composed!

Very nice portrait. The background is very complimentary to the subject.

First I would like to thank everyone for their kind comments.

Heather you are correct there is a small area in the cheek directly under the eye that reads R255 G255 B255. I'm going to have to use the color sampler tool more often! :D

One of the most beautiful head shots I've seen. I especially like the bordeaux red.

Sharp, stunning BG, catchlight.

Cheers

:D :D :D Fabulous, First time I've seen a shot this close. An education for me, the eyes, bill, red forehead and dark gray head patch.

Well, I think this is a fantastic shot and if the white detail is gone in the original file on that small patch on the cheek, you may be able to "rescue" it by following the steps laid out here:

What is the eye colour supposed to be for these birds. My head shot (here) shows a bright yellow eye, while yours is red. Is there a variation in colour, or does one of us have some funky lighting conditions?
