Can't pass up Heron Week! The herons around here are normally pretty skittish but this one let me get several shots fairly close. This is full frame.

D2X, 600mm f/4 & 1.4xTC, ISO 200, 1/1250 @ f/5.6

All critiques and comments greatly appreciated. Thanks

Alan,

I know what you mean about skittish, I can't breath up here and they take off for Florida!
Really nice capture, great lighting and composition. I would clone out the branches above it's back :D

Beautiful shot Alan, Nice job on the full frame composition getting the foreground branch off the bird and the BG is wonderful. Looks like it has been getting cold out in your windy valley!

Nice shot Alan. I feel that it's a bit drab looking at the moment, maybe a boost in contrast or some curves would help with that.

Nice composition on a bird that usually won't allow close approach. Possibly some fill flash would have made it really pop.

Really nice! I agree that these guys are skittish. You did a great job here, capturing a fine pose and excellent detail.
