OK, this seems a bit better. I agree there are
some issues w/the background, I may at some
point attempt some cloning work, so he doesn't
look like he's about to be beamed up by aliens
Thanks everybody for all your comments...

I wish this fellow would have come out into the warm autumn sun
in Chicago today; but he was happy bouncing around in his territory
beneath a shady tree. Comments and constructive criticism welcome.

Also a question: I have another pose with more of
a side angle, so that more of the bird shows; however, the
background is busier, and there is a heavy shadow
cast by the flash. So is the better pose worth the price of
a few photographic undesirables?

Nice pose and details. Maybe a tiny bit more USM is needed. As to your question - I guess I can tell only after seeing the other question.

I agree with Ofer on both counts. A bit tight in the frame but a nice capture overall. :)

Your comments about USM apply to this other one as well.
Thanks for the feedback.

Good percha nd pose, looks just a little noisy to me in the bg, especially at the top.

Nice shot Emil. This species can be difficult to catch out in the open.

I looked at your other shot & prefer this one, mainly because of the shooting angle - the bird is more at eye level. As for the crop, this isn't bad for web presentation, but I would consider moving the bird a little more off center towards the right. USM has been mentioned.

I agree, this is the stronger composition of the two images. It's great to get this species out in the open either way. The strength of this image is the diagonal of the perch, and the more eye-level view point as mentioned. You've got a good basic image to work with here, a little touching up in PS in terms of curves, USM, and noise reduction can make it pop more in spite of the shady shooting conditions. Good catch!

Good one. I much prefer this one over the one in the link. I would take a little off the top.

Am not crazy about the BG but love the bird and the pose you captured!
