Better late than never. The pair of gc flycatchers from last year returned to nest again in a nestbox opposite the one they chose last year. The young must be about a week old as the parents are beginning to bring in larger insects. Dragonflies seemed to be the food of choice last year. If these birds aren't the cutest of birds they must be in the top three. They approach the nestbox in measured stages, cock their heads in different positions, raise their crest, and finally enter. Everything about them is soft and demure except for their raucous call. We were most happy to have them back this year. Photographing them is difficult as they choose nest sites in shaded areas with numerous intervening branches and twigs.
Canon 1DMk II, Canon 400/2.8 + 1.4 TC on Gitzo and Wimberly. ISO 400, 1/60 @ f/5.6. BB at -2. Cropped about 50% and took the healing brush to a bright branch. Comments welcome.

That is very sharp for 1/60, and I like the pose with the cocked head.

Before I saw the techs I was going to suggest a little more dof to give a little more sharpness to the tail, but that clearly isn't possible here.

Would consder cloning the branch that comes out of the tail, and maybe the oof branch that passes behind the head.
