I recently received my 10D from Canon Service and the file numbers are reset back to 0 (zero). I was actually using the in camera numbering as part of the file name (laziness I suppose) and now I am 5900 images short of where I started. Is there anyway to trick the camera into starting at where I left off. I have loaded the last RAW files back into the folder on the card and loaded the card into the camera, but the camera just created a new folder and started from 0001, again.

A Canon tech said this can't be done, but I wanted to hear from the experts before I started with a new file system.

The way I did it with my Nikon was to load one of the old files back onto a card and put it in the camera and take a picture. The camera automatically made it one higher than the number of the file I put on the card.
Obviously, I don't know if this will work with your camera but it's worth a try.

Tony's idea is a good one. Please let us know if this works!

A good suggestion, but that is what I stated so poorly in my original post; I forgot to mention I took a new photo after I loaded the card into the camera. The camera just opened a new folder and went to 0001.

I did just try to load the RAW file only this time and got the same result; the camera just opened a new folder and went to 0001. I thought your suggestion worked on the D60, Tony. But for some reason, the 10D is resisting.

It didn't matter that I had already taken images. It did matter where you put the file and that it be an original, unmodified version and that you were shooting in the same mode as the image.

Alternately, take one of the images you just took and rename it to one less than you want to start using the computer without taking it off the card. Then put the card back in an take another image. Obviously, the file being renamed will be in the 0001 directory.

Great idea, but still a no-go. It still creates a new folder and starts over; i.e. 102-0201 or 103-0301 or 104-0401 ...

Oh well, I guess I will just have to do the leg work. Thanks anyway, Tony.
