This was interesting. This Red shoulder hawk looked like he was going to yawn nicely for me, then upchucked. Not sure what it was, nor did I want to find out.

Nice behavioral capture, it might be a regurgitated pellet of indigestible food contents, interesting that she is also protecting her eye with the nictitacting membrane.

Good timing, Pat. As Juan says, it is regurgitating a pellet. Not just owls do this but hawks, crows and ravens too.

The nictitaing membrane always goes up when raptors regurgitate pellets. Many times they will do this just before the chase in order to prep their digestive system.
