Dark-eyed Junco Gray-headed form
New Mexico

Juncos are such cute birds. And they sit still longer than Chickadees and Nuthatches do! The white streaks are snow.

Ooh! The snowflakes make it just a little more special.

Gorgeous shot, Cindy. The detail is exquisite. Maybe a bit less flash, maybe not.

Excellent bird, very nice pose and composition. Maybe tone the breast down a little.

Beautifully done, Cindy!
Would suggest shaving off from top eliminating the branch altogether ...

Nice Cindy! Where was this? Funny, I have a very similar shot - right down to the snow - here on Long Island in NY.

Colorings are quite different, though. How different are colorings within one species? I'm kinda new at this

This was in New Mexico, Sandia Crest. Dark-eyed Junco has 6 different sub-species that have different plumage variations. You probably get Slate Colored, this is Gray-headed. Not typical, but not unusual either, to have different forms or sub-species within one species.
