Another shot from last Friday at the lagoon. This is my favorite. This shot is a major crop from the original since at web resolution, it does not have the same effect. Still, with this major cropping, the image is still dang sharp.

EOS 20D w/Canon 400 5.6L

Shutter speed: 1/2000 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Exposure mode: Av
Exposure compensation: -2/3
Flash: 580EX External E-TTL High speed sync
Flash exposure compensation: -2/3
Metering mode: Evaluative
Drive mode: Continuous
ISO: 200

converted with Adobe Raw Converter 2.4; processed and sharpened in photoshop cs.

Great shot, both of them! The drops really add a lot to this.

I like the cropped version. The drops of water and sweet bg add a lot. Very nice image!

Pete:

Very intelligent and creative crop. A little flat on my monitor, I increased contrast a little bit.

Thanks Juan, big difference after your contrast boost.

Fab, I've not had a problem getting down low, the problem is that I'm not always dressed for the occasion. Remember, sometimes I go shooting in a shirt, tie, and slacks. I had a change of clothes at Estero so I was ready for the mud.... :P

I much prefer the un-cropped version ...
The cropped one had lost all the fine detail in the plumage if you care to look closely. :(

Mike: I like both shots. The drops of water are great! I personally like to see once in a while a complete bird and not only a headshot. To get low when you are not dressed (or like in my case, in shape, to later get up) I bought a tiny portable chair like the one AlexC uses sometime. Now my pictures are lower without great effort. Very beautiful shot!
