(Northern Harrier) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

There are times when you can't have too much focal length or when you need to be a lot closer. This is one of those times. I've never had very much luck with the 2x on my 600 so I was using the 1.7x on it instead. I got some good images of this bird that day but I really like the pose on this one. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a crop to get it to this point. I guess I could display it smaller in frame and show more of the environment. (Or not!)

Of course, when your this far away, I really didn't have a hope that the flash would actually reach but it was firing anyway.

Tripod Mounted Nikon D2H, 600 AFS , TC-17E, 1020 mm, ISO 400, Aperture Priority, 1/350 @ F8, EV 0, SB-800, BB EV-2.0. Cropped about 35%.

Nice capture. I like the look, but wish the head didn't merge and get lost in the body quite so much. Nice complimentary background.

Great colors and BG and a terrific pose. Since this is a crop I think I'd prefer a bit of a pan to the right to un-center the Harrier a little. Also possibly a bit more USM, at least for the head. Nice shot!

I like the pose also - the head gets a bit lost but very nice regardless. Crop held up well

The pose really makes this one. I think you did well with the TC on. I usually don't have much luck using the TC with my 500mmL.

Anthony, Looks farily sharp on the web anyway. With a nice complimentary background like you have here I wouldn't mind seeing more of it if that helps. Nic shot.

I like this shot a lot Tony. The angle of the head and wings is great. Its sharp enough and there is enough detail in this to be really nice even with the crop. Good work.
